I am figuring out some stuff and practicing sergery too

Remember how I had that puny little list of blogs over on the right before? I only entered a few because I was too lazy to go and collect the web addresses of all the ones I keep up with. Then today, DOH! (yes, Homer totally stole that from me) I found out that there is a tool in Bloglines that enters my whole list in one click, more or less. Now you can see the true extent of my obsession with craftyblogs. I wonder what other miraculous blog tools I don't know about? It's hard to be the New Girl.

I was sort of spoiled my whole growing-up life, because I lived in the same house from the time I was born till I got married--well, I did have a couple of moving-away roommate situations, but I don't count that, because I still brought my laundry home to Mom. So I never had to be the New Girl at school; I was always just there. Not only was I not the New Girl, I was preceded at school by three brothers and a sister. So it wasn't until I entered the working world that I had to experience New Girl Syndrome. I would arrive on the first day of a job and quickly realize that I knew nothing, and would never ever be able to learn anything, and life was essentially hopeless. I couldn't find the cafeteria, didn't know how to fill in my time card, couldn't locate a pencil. It usually took about 3 weeks until I became the office know-it-all.

I can't wait to find out that all the rest of the bloggers have writers that have just returned from being on strike. That's what I suspect, anyway. I'm sure there must be an after-hours hangout that you all go to and that I won't know about for months, too.

But that's OK, because I have rediscovered sergery! I took my serger in to be oiled and cleaned, because I haven't used it for a couple of years. I have a lesson scheduled this week to relearn how to use the dang thing, but meanwhile, it was all threaded when I picked it up, so I've been able to do some sewing on it. I had forgotten how cool it is to be able to do a seam, and overcast it and trim it all at once. Plus, it is so darn FAST. I made covers for my sewing machines today (nothing fancy, just some denim I had, to keep the dust out) in nothing flat. I will be so glad to get the lesson, because I want to learn how to do the cover stitch, which should make it fast and easy to make knit pants and t-shirts and stuff. Using the serger is a little like knitting for me. I'm fine as long as everything goes just right, but if there is a glitch, I don't have a clue how to fix things. Unless by "fixing things" you mean spewing a stream of expletives and throwing away whatever I was working on.

But wait! I have a photo! NEW SHOES!!!!!!! Designed by Camilla. I've never actually sort of known somebody who designed my Chucks before, except for me, and I only ever designed ONE pair, not kazillions to be worn all around the world!! Is that cool or what? And don't forget (Rick!) that since they are Project Red shoes, it's not about new shoes for myself, it's All About Charity.

Okay I'm new to blogland too! I found your site via the funky art queen in Big Spring Tx, she is my bff. Anyway I still don't know how to add my favorite sites that way. Yes the funky art queen showed me lots of things but not sure if she showed me that one. Oh & great shoes!

LOVE the shoes. That's one of my favorite color combinations.

I'll have to keep the "charity" excuse in mind.... :-)

Uh, about Jen's (sarcastic) comment concerning the size of the shoe collection, that not the half of it, or more precisely, not the thousandsth (is that a word?) of it. Let's just say that the photo includes only a wee bit of the shoe collection . . .
